Holiday Banners

Hi everyone! Hope all had a great weekend. They go way to fast, but really, time itself is moving way to fast! Halloween is Thursday, wow! So this week I pumped out to really neat Holiday banners that I donated to Santino's school for their annual Fall Festival for raffling off.  One was a Thanksgiving theme the other was for Christmas.  For both I used my DCWV stacks, Autumn Melody and Arctic Wishes.  I gotta say, I am really happy with how they came, and didn't wanna give the Thanksgiving one after I had hung it on my door for pics!

Here's they are -

I used my cricut of course for the letters and the chipboard, which are tags flipped upside down!  I matted the print paper onto solid paper which is glued to the chipboard tags. Lots of Lindy misting, distress inking, stickling and such going on. As you can see, I have this going in a vertical orientation which seems to have been a big hit :)

Now Christmas -

For this I cut the pennants with my cricut out of chipboard, the letters from the Blackletter cart, matted two different papers from the Arctic Wishes stack.  The flowers I made by hand after cutting a poinsettia flower from one of the Christmas carts, sprayed them with various Lindy mists, then dipped them in melted Utee, shaped and put some tiny beads in the middle.  I added some glossy accents to the end of petals and sprinkled some glitter to look like snow.  You can see I made some dangling bead charms, dyed seam binding and tinsel to tie the pennants together.  Peace and Joy were cut out of foil blue, misted doilies behind at the bottom.  Music pattern paper cut and placed on the top and little sparkly fuzz balls on the point of each pennant bottom.  I used my new Sizzix Bigz medallion die from Brenda Walton for the medallions, I love that die! I just got it from the Scrapbook Expo two weeks ago :)

All in all I love them both.  Tough for me to choose one.  I love the Autumn colors and the up down style, but this Brooklyn Italian girl SO loves glitter and sparkles, so a tough choice :D

OUAS October Challenge

So here we are in October already.  And the second week no less.  I need to get up into the garage storage space and pull out all the Halloween goodies, the kids like the house decorated :)

Anyway, this month over at OUAS the prompt was Journey.   Please click on their name to go to their site :) My lay out is very special and dear to me.  It's about my sis-in-law Angela who lost her brave battle with cancer this past May.   This gal fought cancer for 31 years on and off.  In 82 she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's, in the mid nineties she battled breast cancer.  In 2012, even though she had had a double mastectomy a lump was found in her lymph node under her arm.  Turns out is was also in her lungs.  This girl fought and was declared clean in June of 12 only to have it back 5 months later at Christmas.  Sadly it was now in her brain as well as her lungs.   We always knew this monster was going to get her, she did too.  Angela was a nurse at City of Hope Cancer Hospital for 23 years, as a survivor she wanted to be where she was always watched so she never was unrealistic about her mortality.  Just like everyone always does, we thought we had a few more years with her.  I miss her, my children miss her, we all miss her.  My 3 older daughters were with her just a couple of hours before she passed and they were devastated.  She was so happy they were there and no sooner did they get home that the call came and we were all shocked.  Now comes the rough patch, holiday time.  We are always all together, she does Thanksgiving, cleaning up won't be the same, none of it.  We laugh and joke as we clean.   We're all so close, birthdays together, dinners out.  Life hurts sometimes.  When I was 16 she came in the labor room with me and held this scared 16 year old's hand while I was in labor with my oldest.  We laughed and talked about silly things and it's something I will never forget.  A brave beautiful woman who loved her husband and two boys very much.  Luckily she got to see them both get into UCLA, and one graduate and get an excellent job.  It's those who are left behind that are sad, she is free now.

In honor of breast cancer awareness I did a mostly pink lay out.  First the sketch -

The journaling is right next to the title, Raise Your Glass  to a life well lived.  It's been five months since you left us and it isn't easy. You fought with courage and dignity and now you're on your final journey.

I also used some pink micro beads on the butterflies as well as pink beads in the pin that I stuck in the lace.  The lace was white and I sprayed it pink.  I stamped the watch image on the left side next to the lace and the flower.  I don't think I can do a layout without flowers or butterflies!  I cut the flowers on my cricut and sprayed, glazed, then used a brown marker to vein them.  Cut and misted the leaves as well.  The title was cut with my cricut, I welded the phrase and then cut on chipboard. I'm happy with it, pink was one of her favorite colors.

Winter Fun

Hi everyone, just posting a winter layout I made of my older three when they were a lot younger. We were in New York for a visit the day after Christmas and stayed for the New Year.  There was SO much snow and they had a blast in it.  Johnny-Boy was digging tunnels into the street!  I did this for two calls, Paperhaus, which is a  beautiful magazine and for Zva Creative dt.  I like how it came -

A  fun layout :) I don't get to do winter layouts being in so cali to often.  Now I have to get started on some banners to give to Santino's school for raffling off at their fall festival.
