ABC Primer Altered Clipboard

Hey friends!  Another Monday down and done!  Started this neat altered clipboard on Saturday and finished it up today. I don't like how it came, I LOVE how it came :)  I used my Graphic 45 ABC Primer line that I have been hoarding like a good little girl and dressed this puppy up.  Real easy to do, gesso up the board, then cover with the paper and embellies of choice.  The only thing that's not G45 is the ribbon, that's May Arts ribbon, the key and clock charm, the chain, which is from Tim Holtz chain pack, and the red little pearls in the flowers.  Here are the pics -

Well you know that time is coming folks.  Graphic 45's dt call.  This is my first piece, and I am prepping and brainstorming on the other things I want to do for the submission.  I will keep trying every year regardless of the outcome :)

Have a great week friends!

Sympathy Card

I belong to a book club.  There are several of us who meet every month.  We've been doing it for 3 years now.  They are a wonderful group of ladies and our ages are from late 30's to early 60's.  The first week of January one of our gals suffered the loss of her longtime boyfriend who has been battling cancer for several years.  The thing is he just got a clean bill of health in December, but it seems this flu like bug is what did him in.  Sadly treating cancer takes a toll on your body, and when you're older, it's even harder to bounce back.  Poor Carol is just lost right now.

I put this card together with some goodies from my stash and printed up the quote.  Hope you like it.

Everything Old Is New Again....

Hi folks, thanks for coming by today :)  I have tried something I never did before.  Now I know this isn't earth shattering and that plenty of gals have been doing this quite a bit, but not me.  I love paper. It's only the last two years or so that I have finally been able to take a scissor to it and cut away.  I don't like to cover up patterned paper with paint and drips or sprays of ink or mists.  This was a great way for me to cut my teeth so to say :)  I took paper I have had for, oh I don't know, 4 years or so and that I really didn't like anymore and re-made it.  I took some gesso, added a bit of water to thin it down some and painted it over my paper.  Then I dried it with my heat gun and added another layer to it with some texture paste and stencils.  It gave it a really nice effect.  You can still see the pattern coming through a bit but that's ok.  I should have taken a pic of the paper and how it looked originally. Now I know exactly how to use paper that I really no longer like!  This will come in handy for the new challenge site that Gloria Stengel has put together, Craft Hoarders Anonymous!  Click on the title for some q-n-a's about the whole thing, fantastic way for us papercrafting hoarders to use our stash!

This layout is for Sketchabitlities Challenge.  Pop on over there to see what's doing.  You may even want to give it a go!  Here's the sketch -

Here's my take on the sketch -

This is my son John on the left and my son in law Omar on the right on my daughter Desirae and Omar's wedding day.  John was an usher. That wedding was without a doubt a wonderfully epic extravaganza!  It has made memories that we will treasure forever.  I distressed the edge of the paper and crimped it up then randomly stamped around the page with a word stamp then sprayed with Lindy's mists. The picture is layered on top of some corrugated box that I have now started saving (sure more stuff to hoard), painted white then sprayed and distressed the edges, I embossed another paper with my gears embossing folder from Darise, cut my gears with Tim's big shot die, sprayed away, added the glitter letter stickers for the title, some Tim tissue tape and a jute bow :)  I backed it on another piece of paper from 3 Birds that I got from HSN eons ago, yup using the hoard.  Whaddya think?

Considering that I never did a technique like this I really like the way it came.  Hey guess what?  No butterflies or flowers!  It's funny, since the homemade paste has baby powder, every time I use the heat gun it smells like a babies room lol.

Once Upon A Sketch

Hi everybody!  I changed my blog again.  Every so often I feel like it needs something different and my mood changes so voila :)  Do you like it?

I did a layout for OUAS' January sketch.  The prompt was, Lessons Learnt.  Ha, I'm 10 months away from the big 50, so you can bet I have learned TONS of lessons ;)  I went with a very cheery paper line and bright bold colors.  The paper is a gorgeous line from Webster's Pages, New Year New You. Check it out *HERE*.  I really like their papers and extras.  Great stuff.  On to the layout.  Here's the sketch -

Nadia, the blog owner designs the prettiest sketches.  She is a fave for sure!  Now here's my take on it -

Remember the rules of play here is that there must be journaling somewhere on your lo, mine is behind the pic on the little coral tag.  It says -

As a mother of 6 I have learned many lessons.  Especially since the first 3 were in my early 20's (#1 @ 16) and the last 3 in my late 30's.  You have much more wisdom when you're older that you just lack in youth.  While you're calmer and more easy going, you worry about different things when you have little ones and you're 40 that weren't a concern when you're in your 20's.

Isn't that so true though?  Things that just never entered my head as a 23 yr old that as a wiser older person with so much more life experience came into play.  Never mind knowing that if they didn't walk till they were 3 who cares, I don't have to run after them, lol, but life worries, like what's in store for them.  Such a different perspective.  Quite the experience, and I've run the gamete :)

I fussy cut some flowers from the paper and put it around part of the pic, some paper flowers sprayed with starburst spray as well.  The leaves were a combo of chipboard I cut and a green rose I took apart and colored up more, then hot glued down.  I love the chipboard trellisy thing I cut with my cricut and put behind the pic. I gesso'd it then used my silks in Pretty Peridot and Sunburst. It gives it such a pretty sheen!  Cut the title and gesso'd, inked and silks too.  Some banner words on the right side there with another of the pages. Stickles and pearls for the flower centers, and some stickles on my butterflies.  What would a lo be without some butterflies :)  The bling was originally white, but I used the silks in sunflower to make em yellow.  I love it.  The pic is me with my baby when we wemt cherry picking this past summer, who isn't so much a baby anymore, Santino will be 10 in February.  He told me I have to cherish him these last few weeks since he's the last of the single digit kids.  My baby boy is quite the character.  He has been an adventure for me.

Holiday Banners

I told you all I'd get pics of the holiday banners I made as gifts for my aunts and cousins up here and so I have :)  These were made with all products from my stash.  I bought absolutely nothing for any of these banners!

Ok here we go  -

This banner I made for my aunt.  I used a DCWV Christmas Stack from last year. I can't remember the name of it.

This is for my other aunt.  Again DCWV Christmas stack.  I love how the little window came.  I cut it with my cricut and then I backed it with a vintage postcard from a book of postcards I got from my lss about 4 years ago :)  The postcard is a little girl writing her letter to Santa.

The next ones are for my cousins.  All are DCWV except the one Nutcracker Sweet banner made with G 45's Nutcracker Sweet line from last year.  My one cousin has two little girls in ballet so I thought it perfect for them.

With the Noel and Nutcracker banners I also used my Utee and dipped the flowers and ballet slippers. Just love em.  I should make myself one too ;)  My aunt told me that my cousin Peter who got the Noel one hung it on his tree since it was a left to right vs up and down.  Thought that was a great idea!

Hope you like them.
